THE PERSONAL FACE OF NEO-SOCIALISM | onlinegrandpa's Blog

Neo-Socialism is nothing more than citizens managing their own economy and making sure all available resources are allocated to benefit everyone. It's the essence of a democratic society. Neo-Socialism is the compassionate expression of the dictum that a major function of government is to provide goods and services to its citizens when those citizens could not easily or affordably provide those goods and services for themselves. In other words, Neo-Socialism is simply being neighborly. We are all in this together. We look out for one another. We don't restrict one another's freedom, except when the expression of that freedom harms others. Neo-Socialism is the realization that if all of our children have access to as much education as they both want and need without worrying about the cost, we all benefit as a society. We all share the cost. In fact, we all share the cost of anything that benefits all of us. So, you borrow money from a bank, which we own and manage, and the loan is interest free because we don't profit from the needs of other citizens. You want to go see Grandma in California, you hop on a bus or light rail that takes you to the airport where you get on a plane that takes you to see Grandma. You don't pay for tickets because our transportation needs are universal needs and we all share the cost of that. If you're sick, you go to the doctor. You don't need to bring money because our medical needs are, again, universal needs and we all share the cost of that. In a productive democratic society there's enough work to do so that everyone who can work has a job that pays enough to live a comfortable life on and we can do that because we eliminate the waste that comes from allowing greed and avarice to be part of our economic system. In other words, there are no 50 million dollar bonuses for bosses. We take care of those who can't work because it's the compassionate thing to do and compassion is the heart of neo-socialism the same as it is for being neighborly. If your neighbors house burns down, all three hundred and eight million of your neighbor's neighbors help your neighbor rebuild. Neo-Socialism is nothing more than being compassionate and caring neighbors who look out for one another and stand together working toward a common goal that benefits us all. Sounds to me like a nice place to live, which is all Neo-Socialists are looking for.

The best political system is one that adapts from the lessons of the past. All political and socio-economic systems have good and bad aspects. I agree that the way to a better society is to take positive lessons from these systems to create a better more caring society that nurtures and develops society while still respecting the rights and freedoms of the individual. Every successful country in history has heeded this. Where we endanger society is when we fail to learn from these lessons and become close minded to anything but the status quo.
